19 Street Improvements Project wrapping up
The 19 Street Improvements Project has reached its final phase following two summer construction seasons.
The project included a complete rehabilitation of the roadway between Gaetz Avenue and Irwin Avenue on 19 Street, the extension of Red Deer’s south trail system, and the completion of a multi-lane roundabout at the intersection of 19 Street and 40 Avenue.
“There were constant potholes, limited pedestrian access to businesses and the intersection was the site of many collisions as speeds were high and patience was short,” said Christine Villeneuve, Project manager for the City of Red Deer. “The new roadway, trail system and roundabout will address all of these concerns, and we are proud to reach the end of this project on time and within the allotted budget.”
There are finishing touches that crews will be completing in the coming weeks, but there should be no more major traffic impacts, the City says. There may be occasional lane closures necessary over the next two weeks, but officials say they will be short in duration and not during peak traffic times.
