Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is very proud to announce Georgia Sawchuk (Queens Cross Country Running) and Dillon Gauci (Kings Volleyball) as the RDP Athletes of the Week.

Program – Bachelor of Science in Psychology (3rd)
Hometown – Jarvie, Alberta

This past weekend, Georgia Sawchuk was a key contributor to the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Cross Country Running team’s gold medal performance at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross Country Running Championships in Calgary.

Sawchuk (26:31), a Bachelor of Science in Psychology student, saved one of her best performances for when it mattered most, placing ninth among her ACAC peers.

The RDP Queens (40 points) eclipsed second place Lethbridge Polytechnic (51 points) by 11 points. The NAIT Ooks (64 points) sealed bronze.

Sawchuk and the RDP Queens will participate at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Running National Championships hosted by the St. Clair College Saints in Windsor, Ontario on Saturday, November 9.

Hometown – Bendigo, Victoria, Australia

Dillon Gauci, a talented six-foot-eight middle, had an exceptional weekend on the court for the RDP Kings Volleyball team, helping his team earn two weekend victories over the Ambrose University Lions.

On Friday, Gauci recorded nine kills (0.900) and five stuff blocks in the Kings’ three set win (25-22, 25-15 and 25-14). The Bachelor of Kinesiology student was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game.

On Saturday, Gauci added 8 kills (0.640) in RDP’s four set decision (25-13, 25-22, 16-25 and 25-20) over Ambrose University, helping the Kings to sweep the weekend series. Australia’s Gauci also accumulated a total of six digs over seven sets of volleyball.

Gauci and the RDP Kings (2-0) share top spot in the ACAC Men’s Volleyball South Division with the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (2-0).
