A Red Deer family has made a generous donation of $2.3 million to four local organizations.

The family of Donald and Alice Beamish honoured their memory this week with a presentation at Red Deer Regional Hospital.

There, it was announced the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation will receive $860,139 from the Beamish estate, with the same amount going to Gaetz Memorial United Church, $369,953 going to the Red Deer Hospice Society, and $182,976 being given to the Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre.

“Alice was a long-time supporter of the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation. She knew how much they needed support,” said niece Debora Rice-Salomons, speaking at the event. “Ordinary people can make a difference.”

Donald Beamish, who passed away in 2007, had a notable career in the vehicle dealership business and served as Western Regional Manager for Chrysler Canada. He was also a dedicated volunteer in Red Deer, involved in Victims Services, the Shriners, and many other organizations.

Alice Beamish, who passed away this June at 88, spent 33 years with Alberta Government Telephones and was deeply involved in various volunteer efforts, including UNICEF and the Girl Guides.

“We are incredibly grateful for this generous contribution,” said Manon Therriault, CEO of the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation. “This gift will make a significant difference for the hospital, both now and in the future.”

The Beamish family added that they are especially excited about the hospital’s upcoming expansion and the early arrival of a cardiac catheterization lab.
