Tackling Poverty

Action for Prosperity community forum set for early November

Oct 24, 2024 | 10:43 AM

Action for Prosperity will be is hosting its second community forum next month in hopes of initiating action on poverty in Central Alberta.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Red Deer Resort & Casino from 5 to 8 p.m. they will bring together local businesses, agencies, and community members to discuss how to tackle poverty in the community.

“We know that issues like affordability, unemployment, and exclusion don’t have easy answers. But we also know that if we act together, we can make an impact and help more of our neighbours to thrive,” as stated in the release.

“We recognize that no single organization can tackle the roots of poverty and inequality. Most of our service systems are not set up to deal with these big, complex issues. We also know, though, that when those who are struggling can live up to their potential, our whole community is stronger.”

Since the last community forum held in May, Action for Properity’s cabinet has been planning initiatives to take action based on what was discussed five months ago.

Officials say the initiatives were created to help those who are working hard but struggle to make ends meet and to engage local businesses to help make central Alberta a more equitable place to work.

Action for Prosperity is an initiative of the Central Alberta Poverty Reduction Alliance and the United Way Central Alberta. Funding has been provided by Red Deer and District Family and Community Support Services.

Admission to the event is free.
