Edmonton inmate on the lam since January caught in Red Deer

A prisoner from the Edmonton area who’s been on the lam since January was located Oct. 19 in Red Deer.

Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) confirms that 45-year-old William Mackinaw was located by Red Deer RCMP this past weekend.

Red Deer RCMP confirm to rdnewsNOW that he was located at the Red Deer Provincial Courthouse while attending for a separate legal matter.

He had been unlawfully at large since Jan. 4 of this year after leaving the Stan Daniels Healing Centre, a Section 81 facility operated by Native Counselling Services of Alberta (NCSA).

According to the Edmonton Police Service, Mackinaw failed to report to work while on an authorized temporary absence.

Mackinaw is serving a 23-year sentence for multiple offences, some of which are firearms-related.

NCSA and the Correctional Service of Canada are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
