MAKING DEMOCRACY WORK FOR YOU

Council of Canadians Red Deer to hold presentation on electoral reform

Oct 21, 2024 | 11:39 AM

The Council of Canadians Red Deer invites residents of all ages to a free presentation on electoral reform on November 7.

From 6-7:45 p.m. in the Snell Auditorium (Red Deer Public Library, downtown branch), a speaker from the Edmonton chapter of Fair Vote Canada will explain how Canada’s democracy works, and how other voting systems in the world work.

“I would like to have people open their minds to the possibilities of how we could protect our democracy and how we can work to have it work better for us, that we should all have a say in government, and we should feel our views are being represented,” explained Susan Strong, a volunteer organizer for the event and member of the Council of Canadians Red Deer.

She added that the current level of partisan discourse in our federal government makes this a fitting time to reevaluate whether the system we use is really working for the people, as other systems require more cooperation between parties.
