UPDATE: Maskwacis RCMP say heavy police presence ended

Maskwacis RCMP are thanking members of the public for their co-operation, after a heavy police presence was ended in the very early morning hours of Oct. 19, 2024.

On Oct. 18, 2024 shortly after 9:45 p.m. Maskwacis RCMP responded to a complaint of forcible confinement involving a firearm, noting numerous RCMP resources were dispatched to the area.

Mounties say the female victim, who called 911, was located hiding in a treeline outside of a residence on the Louis Bull Townsite. Following an investigation, which involved the execution of a search warrant, police say two male suspects were arrested.

Timothy Bull, a 47-year-old resident of the Louis Bull First Nation, was charged with:

  • Forcible confinement
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Uttering threats
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Multiple charges related to failing to comply with a release order

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old male youth, also a resident of the Louis Bull First Nation, was charged with:

  • Forcible confinement
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Assault
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Failing to comply with a youth release order.

RCMP say Timothy Bull was brought before a Justice of the Peace and, after a judicial interim hearing, was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 21, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.

Mounties say the male youth was also brought before a Justice of the Peace and, after a judicial interim hearing, was remanded into custody.  His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct.21, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton.

The Maskwacis RCMP are advising the public of a heavy police presence at the Louis Bull First Nations Townsite.

They issued the statement at 11 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18 and are asking the public to avoid the area. In addition, they’re also asking people to not post photos of the responding officers on social media.

There is no risk to the public and an update will be sent out when more information is available.
