PROMOTING YOUTH ROAD SAFETY

Alberta RCMP encourage youth to speak up about road safety in their communities

Oct 18, 2024 | 4:13 PM

Alberta RCMP will be promoting the safety of all youth road users from Oct. 20-26, with this year’s theme for the annual campaign being #OurFutureRoads.

The goal of this year’s theme is to empower youth ages 15-24 to shape the roadway systems being built today and ensure everyone can travel safely.

Police say road crashes are the third-leading cause of death among this age group, making it vital to ensure they are in on the safety conversation.

“Youth use many modes of transportation, from driving to cycling, and even public transit,” states Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic. “It’s important that they feel heard regarding issues in their communities that relate to their safety, such as roadways. Together, we can help ensure that everyone feels safe when commuting, no matter their mode of transportation.”
