Flying high: Chinook’s Edge students embark on aviation adventure

Six Chinook’s Edge students are cleared for takeoff as they embark on a career pathway learning opportunity in aviation, which became open to Grade 11 and 12 students last spring.

Chinook’s Edge School Division and Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools – partners through the Central Alberta Collegiate Institute (CACI) – re-established a relationship with Sky Wings Aviation last school year.

In April 2024, both divisions selected six students to participate in the aviation ground school program, with a total of 12 students enrolled.

The program was successful and the school divisions decided to offer two more sessions of the program in the 2024-25 school year, with one cohort operating in each semester.

“We are pleased to be offering the aviation program again this year,” says Brianne Fletcher, Chinook’s Edge Career Connections Coordinator. “A key focus in our work through CACI is helping students transition to post secondary. We want students to have the confidence that they can pursue a certificate or degree and be successful.

The current session began Oct. 8 and will wrap up on Oct. 26.
