A Sylvan Lake firefighter, Jason Morgan, has been awarded a 12-year Provincial Service Award for his dedicated service.

Sylvan Lake Mayor Megan Hanson and town council presented him with the award during their regular meeting Oct. 15.

“Jason’s family-first approach is part of what makes him not just a great firefighter, but a great person,” Hanson commented. “… it’s because of Jason’s dedication and heart that we celebrate him tonight.”

Hanson shared that Morgan joined the Sylvan Lake Fire Department in July 2012 right after he graduated high school. He is now a husband, and a father to two children, Emerly and Loklan.

“He’s represented us on wildfire deployments, showing his bravery and skill in the face of dangerous situations, but Jason’s impact goes far beyond technical expertise. He’s a firefighter who understands the importance of family, and we’re grateful to his wife Katrina and their children for their support of his role in our community,” Hanson said.

She added that he always exhibits a positive attitude, regardless of what’s thrown his way.
