Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics has announced Myah Cota (Queens Cross-Country Running) and Japhet Kipkosgei (Kings Cross Country Running) as the RDP Athletes of the Week.

Myah Cota

Queens Cross Country Running

Program – Bachelor of Science in Nursing (4th)

Hometown – Red Deer, AB

Myah Cota was a key contributor to the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Cross Country Running team’s first place finish at Running Room Grand Prix #5 in Camrose. The fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student (26:32) ranked eighth among Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) female runners over 6 km, contributing to the Queens’ league-best 32 points. The RDP Queens impressively eclipsed the second place Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (69 points) by 37 points. Red Deer’s Cota will be an important member of the Queens at the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships on October 26 in Calgary.

Japhet Kipkosgei

Kings Cross Country Running

Program – University Arts Diploma (1st)

Hometown – Kapsabet, Kenya

Japhet Kipkosgei had a strong performance for the RDP Kings Cross Country Running team at Running Room Grand Prix #5. The first-year student-athlete from Kenya (28:59) led the Kings and finished sixth among his ACAC peers on the 8 km course. This exceptional effort helped the RDP Kings (59 points) place fourth as a team, trailing third place NAIT (54 points) by only five points. Kipkosgei, a University Arts Diploma student, has been a welcome addition to the RDP Cross Country Running team. With his hard work and talent, Kipkosgei will be in contention for a medal at the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships on October 26.
