ENTERING DESIGN PHASE

Penhold awards project bid for new public services building

Oct 16, 2024 | 2:59 PM

A new public services and fire hall building planned for Penhold has moved farther along in the design process after town council officially awarded the project bid to general contractor Scott Builders Inc.

The decision was unanimously approved during the Oct. 15 regular council meeting.

The budget for the project is $9.5 million, but Mayor Mike Yargeau says the Town is expecting it to fall closer to $7-8 million, pending the finalized designs.

“Now the management team and the general contractor are going to work together on the final design, make sure we have a building that’s going to work for us for the next 50 years and stays within the budget, and then move forward.”

He adds that it is too soon to give an official timeline on construction, but hopes everything will be in place for a spring 2025 start.

Yargeau says the Town is familiar with Scott Builders Inc. as they have done work for the Town before, and that it seemed fitting to have a central Alberta company put some work into the region.

“The bid they put together was very detailed, very thorough. We had a number of really high quality bids from local contractors and ones outside of the central Alberta area. At the end of the day, they had an attractive price,” he explains.
