Oil Kings trip up Rebels 5-1 in Edmonton

Oct 12, 2024 | 7:30 PM

It was another tough outing for the Red Deer Rebels (now 4-3-1-0) in a Saturday matinee against the Edmonton Oil Kings (2-3-0-1).

The Rebels gave up three first period goals en route to a 5-1 defeat, the club’s third straight after rattling off four consecutive wins.

The result was also an indicator that Red Deer has some work to do on the road going forward. Away from the Centrium, they sport a 1-2-0-0 record, versus a 3-1-1-0 record at home.

Scoring summary

Gracyn Sawchyn (1st) got the home fans pumped with an early go-ahead goal, just 4:02 in.

Then, at 12:17 of the first, Gavin Hodnett (3rd) potted the eventual game-winner.

Roan Woodward (2nd) added a third first period goal at 19:36, and it came on the power play.

The Rebels’ Chase Wutzke started the game, but was pulled after the first period, allowing three goals on 12 shots.

Enter Rhett Stoesser, who ultimately stopped 16 of 18 pucks.

Onto the second where it just got worse for Red Deer — Cole Miller (1st) scored at 4:39 for the 4-0 lead.

Then Landon Hanson (2nd) put a little extra salt in the wound at 13:05.

After 40 minutes, it was 5-0 Oil Kings.
