Red Deer unemployment rate down from August but up year-over-year

The Red Deer region’s unemployment rate came in lower in September when compared to the month before but is still higher than the same month last year.

According to Statistics Canada, the jobless rate for the Red Deer region in September was 7.6 per cent, down from 7.8 per cent in August but up from 6.7 per cent in September 2023.

That compares with an unemployment rate of 8.6 per cent in Edmonton, 7.2 per cent in Calgary, 7.2 per cent in Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake, 6.1 per cent in Lethbridge-Medicine Hat, 5.1 per cent in Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River, and 4.7 per cent in Camrose-Drumheller.

Alberta’s unemployment rate was 7.4 per cent in September, up from 7.3 per cent in August, and 5.9 per cent in September 2023.
