Rebels fall 3-0 to Tigers in teams’ fourth meeting already

Oct 9, 2024 | 9:49 PM

The Red Deer Rebels’ season is only seven-games-old, yet they’ve already played Central Division rival, the Medicine Hat Tigers, four times.

That included Wednesday night at the Hat’s Co-op Place where the Rebels finally lost one to the Tigers, this time by a final score of 3-0.

In the span of eight days, from Sept. 27 to Oct. 4, Red Deer beat Med Hat 4-2, 4-3 and 6-3.

The Rebels and Tigers meet next Oct. 25, then Jan. 10, March 7 and March 15.

Scoring summary

It was a busy first period, though not for a bounty of goals.

The teams combined for 33 penalty minutes, which included the Tigers’ Bryce Pickford picking up a major for kneeing, a major for fighting (against the Rebels’ Jeramiah Roberts) and a game misconduct all on the same play.

It was scoreless after 20 minutes.

The scoring finally got going right at the midway mark of the game, 10 minutes through the second, when Andrew Basha (2nd) beat Chase Wutzke for the 1-0 lead.

Through 40 minutes, Med Hat led 1-0.

In the third, the Tigers extended their lead when Matt Paranych (2nd) scored at 12:25.

Markus Ruck (2nd) then iced it away with an empty netter at 18:11.

Final score: 3-0 Medicine Hat.

Tigers netminder Harrison Meneghin earned the 24-save shutout.
