QUICKLY CHANGING INDUSTRY

Farm Credit Canada names new director for central Alberta

Oct 9, 2024 | 2:57 PM

Farm Credit Canada has announced that Brett Speight is taking over as the district director for operations in central Alberta.

Having grown up in the area, Speight is well-versed, the FCC says, in understanding the value of agriculture and the food industry.

“I’m thrilled to join the FCC team in central Alberta where we have the privilege of serving one of Canada’s most important agricultural areas,” Speight said.

“Agriculture is successful here because of the hard work, innovation and resilience of the people who call these farming communities, home. I look forward to meeting our FCC customers and supporting our teams to provide the solutions our Central Alberta producers need in a quickly changing industry.”

Central Alberta is an important market for ag and food, as it is home to nearly 8,000, or 20 per cent, of Alberta’s farms, and created over $4 billion in ag-related revenue last year.

“At FCC, we are in step with the changing needs of the industry and our customers because all we do is agriculture and food,” added Speight.

“I consider relationships to be a foundational piece of what makes FCC unique. I look forward to building on the relationships we already have and developing new ones. From there, we can discover opportunities to problem-solve, innovate, and then grow an even more robust agricultural community together.”

Prior to joining FCC, Speight was vice-president at Prairie Centre Credit Union and CEO at the United Way of Central Alberta, having earned his MBA from Athabasca University.

In his new role, Speight leads a team of 47 people who serve more than 3,400 FCC customers between Red Deer, Camrose, Olds and Leduc for a total loan portfolio of $2.48 billion.
