Wetaskiwin RCMP charge two males with weapons and drug offenses

Two suspects have been arrested following a traffic stop in central Alberta last week that police say turned up drugs and a firearm.

On October 4, shortly after 5 p.m., a Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit was observing a vehicle with suspects known to police, and conducted a traffic stop.

Police report observing a firearm in the vehicle, leading to the arrest of two individuals.

A 41-year-old male residing in Maskwacis, Alta. was charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm in motor vehicle
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm when unauthorized
  • Possession of a firearm without a Licence.

After a judicial interim hearing, RCMP say the suspect was released with conditions and his next court appearance is set for Oct. 24, 2024 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.

A second male, 35-years-old and also residing in Maskwacis, Alta. was charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm in motor vehicle
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm when unauthorized
  • Possession of a firearm without a Licence.
  • Two counts of failing to comply with release order.
  • Two counts possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization.
  • Possession of drugs: Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth)

After a judicial interim hearing, this suspect was remanded into custody with his next court appearance scheduled for Oct. 8, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.
