RDP Athletics weekend recap

This past week, the RDP Kings and Queens Soccer teams defeated the Ambrose University Lions in Calgary.

The Queens blanked the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings at home.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Cross Country team finished the weekend in Calgary with a second place finish while the Kings just missed out on the podium with a fourth place finish.

At their second rodeo of the season, the RDP Rodeo team continued to dominate with several top 10 finishes.

Soccer

RDP Queens at Ambrose University Lions | Saturday, September 28

The second seed Red Deer Polytechnic Queens earned a 2-1 victory over the fourth place Lions (2-3-1) in Calgary. Kennedy Van Arragon (Business Diploma) and McKenna Leslie (Bachelor of Education) scored for the Queens.

Queens vs U of A Augustana Vikings | RDP Main Field | Sunday, September 29

The RDP Queens (6-1-0) defeated the seventh seed Vikings (0-7) by a 2-0 margin. Alisha Coules and Olivia Lundell recorded goals for the Polytechnic. Queens goalkeeper Jana Leskewich (Bachelor of Education) made three saves, earning the shutout.

Red Deer Polytechnic Kings at Lions | Saturday, September 28

The first place RDP Kings (3-1-2) picked up a convincing 5-1 win over the fifth seed Ambrose University Lions (1-3-1). Both Ajdin Sarcevic and Grant Johnson contributed a pair of goals for Red Deer Polytechnic. Jaxon Fernandes (Open Studies) added a single marker. Red Deer’s Brian Murray made nine saves in the Kings’ net.

Cross Country Running

Grand Prix #4 | hosted by St. Mary’s in Calgary | Saturday, September 28

After two strong outings this season, the Red Deer Polytechnic Cross Country Running team had another strong performance at Running Room Grand Prix #4 in Calgary. The Queens finished in second place with 61 points while the Kings just missed the podium with 66 points. Justine Larson led the way for the Queens, placing sixth among ACAC female runners over 6 km with a time of 26:17 while Kings newcomer Japhet Kipkosgei (University Arts Diploma) (29:02) led the way for his team in the 8 km race.

Rodeo

Northern Lights College Rodeo | Dawson Creek, BC | September 28 and 29

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens earned 10 top 10 finishes at the Northern Lights College Rodeo in Dawson Creek this past weekend. On the first day of competition, Casey Thomson (76 points) took top spot in Bareback Bronc Riding. Chad Cooper (15.9) placed fifth in Tie Down Roping, Brienna Lear (16.75) ranked sixth in Barrel Racing and Rylee Peck (22.56) capped off the day with a ninth place finish in Pole Bending.

Thomson continued his strong performance on the second day. He (73 points) secured another first place finish while his teammate Ryan Collett (12.1) had a bounce back performance in Tie Down Roping to finish in first place while Cooper (21.5) improved to fourth. Taylor Cholach (16.32) finished in fifth place in Barrel Racing, Julia Holtkamp ranked seventh in goat tying and Peck was right behind her in eighth.
