RDP Athletes of the Week: September 20-22

Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics has named Melissa Ray and Ajdin Sarcevic as its Athletes of the Week for Sept. 15-21.

Ray competes on the Queens Cross Country Running team, is in her fourth year of a bachelor’s of science in nursing, and hails from Three Hills.

At Running Room Grand Prix #3, Ray (26:41) helped lead the RDP cross country team to first place with 29 points.

She placed fourth among her peers over 6 km, and only trailed third place Kerigan Frampton of SAIT by five seconds in Lethbridge.

On September 28, Ray and the rest of the Queens will deliver their next performance at Running Room Grand Prix #4, hosted by St. mary’s University in Calgary.

Sarcevic is captain of the King’s Soccer team and is in his fourth year of the business administration program.

He made an impressive performance in the RDP Kings’ 7-2 victory over the Olds College Broncos on Saturday. The midfielder was involved offensively in six of the team’s seven goals, securing three goals and three assists. Sarcevic was named the Kings Player of the Game.

Sarcevic has been a force this season and leads the league with 15 points and is tied for the most goals (six).

He and the Kings will challenge the Ambrose University Lions in Calgary on Saturday, September 28.
