Red Deer Emergency Services (RDES) responded to a small fire at the BA Hotel (2807 50 Avenue) at 4:27 p.m. on September 23 and had it under control in less than ten minutes.

Assistant Deputy Chief Evan Stewart was on scene and said the fire was contained to one room of the hotel, causing damage to the room’s contents but no structural damage to any other part of the hotel.

“Crews did a really good job of getting the fire under control really quickly and making sure that there were no injuries. Unfortunate circumstances, but with a good outcome,” Stewart commented on the incident.

Hotel residents were evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported by citizens or firefighters.

Stewart said the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

It was rated as a first alarm fire, meaning the standard response of three engines, one ladder, and a platoon chief were deployed, with no need to later escalate the call.
