An Olds resident has been arrested and charged for an alleged possession of fentanyl and other substances.

On August 31, Olds RCMP were continuing an ongoing drug investigation that led them to a room at a local hotel. Officers spoke with the occupant who they say invited them into the room.

Once inside, officers observed what they believed to be fentanyl, leading to the arrest of the occupant and a search warrant for the room.

The search warrant was carried out on Sept. 1, by the Olds RCMP Crime Reduction unit, Olds and Didsbury RCMP, and the Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team (CLEAR).

Police say they seized the following:

  • Approximately 560 grams of suspected fentanyl
  • Just under 100 grams of suspected cocaine
  • 12 grams of suspected methamphetamine
  • 680 contraband cigarettes
  • Other items often used when trafficking drugs

A 25-year-old amle resident of Olds, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, mischief and two provincial offences in relation to the cigarettes.

He was held for a judicial interim release hearing and was released to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on Oct. 21, 2024.
