International Day of Peace to foster unity and conversation in Red Deer

Sep 19, 2024 | 1:36 PM

This Saturday, September 21, marks the 25th annual International Day of Peace, and the Central Alberta Multifaith Network for Compassion and Peace has partnered with Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) to bring the community together and celebrate the occasion.

In the spirit of fostering unity, understanding and peaceful coexistence, there will be a free-to-attend program taking place in the Margaret Parsons Theatre at RDP from 1-3:30 p.m.

First, there will be a keynote address by Lewis Cardinal, executive committee member for the Parliament of the World’s Religions. His address will explore The Role of Religions, Faiths, and Spiritual Traditions in Global Reconciliation.

Following this, there is a panel discussion featuring five speakers from five different faith traditions planned. They will offer unique perspectives on how peace shows up in scriptures and teachings, and in everyday life. Speakers come from Baha’i, Buddhist, Humanist, Muslim, and Christian backgrounds.

Other highlights include refreshments and multifaith calendars available for purchase, which feature significant religious and spiritual observances from around the world.

Attendees are encouraged to bring an open heart and mind, ask questions during the Q & A, and learn more about how we can all contribute to a culture of peace.

The International Day for Peace is an observance created by the United Nations.
