RDP Athletics recap: September 9

This past week, the RDP Cross Country Running and Soccer teams began the 2024/2025 ACAC season.

Here is a summary of the recent results:

Cross Country Running

Running Room Grand Prix #1 | Hosted by Concordia University | Saturday, September 7

The Red Deer Polytechnic Cross Country Running team proved that it will be a force in the ACAC after a strong debut at Running Room Grand Prix #1. Melissa Ray (27:32) finished sixth among ACAC female runners over 6 km, helping to lead the RDP Queens (34 points) to first place at Gold Bar Park in Edmonton. Captain Justine Larson (28:06) followed in seventh. The Concordia University Thunder Women’s team (53 points) placed second and the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (64 points) ranked third.

Jordan Coen (30:47) led the way for the third place Kings (63 points), finishing sixth among ACAC male student-athletes in the 8 km race. RDP’s Owen House (33:19) was 13th . The SAIT Trojans Men’s squad (22 points) took top honours. The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (41 points) wrapped up second.

Soccer

Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at SAIT Trojans | Saturday, September 7

The RDP Queens Soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to the SAIT Trojans in Calgary.

Queens vs. Broncos | RDP Main Field | Sunday, September 8

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (1-1-0) delivered a 3-0 shutout performance over the Olds College Broncos (1-1-0) at the Polytechnic. Stettler’s Alisha Coules scored twice and Sherwood Park’s Paige Kalbfleisch added one goal in the Queens’ victory. RDP goalkeeper Jana Leskewich, a Bachelor of Education student, made three saves.

RDP Kings at SAIT Trojans | Saturday, September 7

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer team was downed 5-1 by the SAIT Trojans. Jaxon Fernandes (Open Studies) scored the Polytechnic’s lone goal.

Kings vs. Broncos | RDP Main Field | Sunday, September 8

The RDP Kings (0-1-1) and Olds College Broncos (0-0-1) tied 1-1. Red Deer’s Ajdin Sarcevic scored for the Kings.

Non-Conference

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team hosted its Icebreaker Tournament:

  • Queens 3 – Medicine Hat College 1
  • RDP Queens 2 – Cochrane Chaos 1
  • Queens 3 – Olds College 0

This Week in Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics

This weekend, both the RDP Kings and Queens Soccer teams will play two games on the road.

Soccer

Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at Medicine Hat College | Saturday, September 14 | 2 pm

The Queens Soccer team (1-1-0) will challenge the Rattlers (1-0-0) in Medicine Hat

RDP Queens at Lethbridge Polytechnic | Sunday, September 15 | 12 pm

The Queens (1-1-0) will play the Kodiaks (1-1-0) down south.

RDP Kings at Medicine Hat College | Saturday, September 14 | 4 pm

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer team (0-1-1) will face the Rattlers (0-0-0) in Medicine Hat.

Kings at Lethbridge Polytechnic | Sunday, September 15 | 2 pm

The RDP Kings (0-1-1) will compete against the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (2-0-0), wrapping up their two-game road trip.
