SEPTEMBER 13-15

Red Deer to host Alberta Provincial Citizens on Patrol AGM

Sep 10, 2024 | 11:08 AM

Alberta Provincial Citizens on Patrol (ACOPA) is hosting a workshop and annual general meeting, which the Red Deer chapter is hosting for the very first time.

The meeting will be held at the Baymont Hotel in Red Deer from Sept.13-15 and the organization is expecting about 100 registrants from around the province.

The mandate of Citizens on Patrol (COP) volunteers is to try and build safer communities by mobilizing citizens throughout Alberta to participate in crime prevention initiatives in cooperation with local law enforcement. Essentially, COP operates as an extra set of eyes and ears in the community and pass on suspicious activities to police.

The weekend will begin with a dinner and greetings from Mayor Ken Johnston and the RCMP at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, there will be presentation sessions from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) on Internet Child Exploitation (ICE), Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN), and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).
