New family physician beginning work in Red Deer

Red Deer’s physician base is growing again as a new family physician is now providing care in the area.

Officials with Alberta Health Services say Dr. Fidelis Oguejiofor is working out of The Branch Clinic in Red Deer. Officials say Dr. Oguejiofor will also be providing hospitalist services at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. Individuals needing a family doctor can call 403-986-8600 to arrange a meet-and-greet appointment.

“Red Deer has tranquil and historic charm, and the people are friendly,” says Dr. Oguejiofor. “I am happy to be involved in providing high-quality medical care to local residents.”

AHS says The Branch Clinic now has six physicians serving the community.

“Family doctors are vital to the health of Alberta families and communities,” says Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health and MLA for Red Deer-North. “Dr. Oguejiofor is a welcome addition to Red Deer, and he is sure to be a great asset to our community.”

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says it is continuing its efforts to recruit for physicians across the central zone to meet community needs. AHS says it has physician resource planners who identify and pursue international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. Officials say they work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.
