BIDDING CLOSES SEPT. 18

Generosity and style go hand-in-hand for Red Deer Hospice Society’s fundraising auction

Sep 9, 2024 | 12:25 PM

The Red Deer Hospice Society’s bi-annual Handbag Auction is back and the organization’s goal is to raise $10,000.

Located in the Anders neighbourhood, the Hospice Society is “a residential end-of-life care facility where compassion, connection, and comfort are at the heart of everything we do,” says event coordinator Janelle Spady.

The auction is one of its bigger fundraising events and gives residents an opportunity to contribute to the non-profit and get their hands on a designer handbag in the same breath. The auction began on Sept. 5 and there are 40 bags open for bidding until it closes at 1:15 p.m. on Sept. 18.

The bidding ends just in time for the luncheon, which takes place the same day from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn and Suites South and gives winning bidders a chance to pick up their bags right away.

“It’s a chance to gather friends and enjoy a three course meal while bidding on beautiful designer handbags,” said Spady.

Spady did add that the luncheon is sold out, however anyone is welcome to bid online and bags can be picked at the Hospice Society from Sept. 23-27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants really hoping to get their hands on a certain item can utilize the maximum bid feature, which allows you to name the highest price you are willing to pay. The system will then automatically place a bid for you as the item status changes, up to the total you provided, she explained.

The organization is celebrating its 19th year of service to the community on September 15. All of the proceeds raised from this event will remain with the Society to support end-of-life care in the Red Deer community.
