Former Red Deerian publishing short story collection

Former Red Deerian Kirti Bhadresa, now located in Calgary, is publishing a short story collection to be released on October 1, 2024.

An Astonishment of Stars is a short story collection that charts the lives of racialized women as they navigate their relationships, aspirations, and the burdens of memory and expectations.

Along their journey the women experience mundane microaggressions, try on ill-fitting roles, and manage emotions they never allow others to see. The characters are both familiar and singular, in an effort to remind readers of the women they have been, and of their mothers and daughters, neighbours and adversaries.

The collection focuses on those who are unseen and gives comment on the heart of contemporary womanhood, community collisions, and relationships both chosen and forced upon women.
