Red Deer and Parksville’s Nicholas Bennett, who won three medals at the soon-to-conclude Paris Paralympics, has been named a flag bearer for Canada at the closing ceremony.

The grand finale is scheduled for noon Mountain Time on Sept. 8.

Bennett’s co-flag bearer is para-canoe athlete Brianna Hennessy.

Bennett won his first medal at his second Paralympics in the 200 metre freestyle, then won a gold in the 100 metre breaststroke, and topped it all off with a second gold and Paralympics record in the 200 metre individual medley.

He also holds the world record in that last race.

The 20-year-old failed to qualify in the 100 metre backstroke on Sept. 6.

Bennett swims in the S14 classification which is for those with an intellectual disability. The Vancouver Islander turned Red Deerian spoke to rdnewsNOW about his autism prior to the Games.
