Alberta Sports Hall of Fame fundraiser to be a hole-in-one

Sep 6, 2024 | 11:27 AM

The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame’s 31st annual golf tournament tees off at the Innisfail Golf Club on September 12, and registration is still open.

Starting at 11 a.m., participants can break up the day by checking out the silent auction, the refreshment hole, and try their luck at the prize wheel, where you might win a prize or a challenge, like shooting your next shot blindfolded.

For those residents who aren’t keen to golf but want to support the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, it is also holding a prize raffle.

“We have a raffle going on right now that we’ve started selling tickets for. You can win a Chilly Moose cooler that is filled with all kinds of craft beer and other drinks that some local businesses and other friends have donated to us,” says Cassidy Colling, marketing and communications coordinator for the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.

The estimated value for the package is $1000, and tickets are $20. Tickets for the raffle can be purchased by calling 403-341-8614, emailing info@albertasportshall.ca, or sending an e-transfer to director@albertasportshall.ca with your name and contact information.

The event is one of the major fundraisers for the organization, which is the only provincial hall of fame in Alberta, says Colling.

“We serve as a place to preserve history, preserve our sporting history, and we are a charity so we need money to help sustain that,” she adds.

Funds raised through the tournament will contribute to some of the Hall’s recent initiatives such as increased outreach goals, facility upgrades, and other long term goals.

“We just want to be able to invite everyone to come and play some games, be inspired by the stories that are in the hall of fame, and maybe it inspires people to join their local team,” Colling says.

To register for the tournament, Red Deerians can call or email the organization and registration packages can be found on its website. The cost is $225 per person or $900 for a team.
