Red Deer’s Bennett wins second Paralympic swim gold, Reid earns silver
PARIS — Canadian swimmer Nicholas Bennett is a double gold medallist at the Paralympic Games.
The 20-year-old originally from Parksville, won the men’s 200-metre individual medley in Paralympic record time two days after taking the 100-metre breaststroke in Paris.
Bennett described to Swimming Canada that the last 50 metres were painful.
“I had to hammer the last 50, lose whatever I had left in the tank,” said the 20-year-old, who is coached by his sister Haley Bennett-Osborne at the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club.
