Traffic disruptions on 19 Street for paving

Aug 31, 2024 | 7:17 AM

City of Red Deer PSA — Crews are continuing to work on the 19 Street Improvements Project and as a result, traffic disruptions are expected for multiple days in the beginning of September.

On September 3, 4, 8 and 9 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., traffic will be detoured to one-lane in each direction and all intersections on 19 Street between Irwin Avenue and Gaetz Avenue will be right-in and right-out only to keep traffic flowing through the area.

During evening hours, all intersections will revert to all turns.

On September 3, crews will begin to sweep and oil the westbound lanes to prepare for paving that will begin on September 4 between 40 Avenue and Gaetz Avenue.

The intersection of 19 Street and Sharpe Avenue will be closed for up to three hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drivers needing to enter the Sharpe Avenue complex will be directed by flaggers to park at Westerner Park and walk or catch a shuttle into the complex.

On September 8, the eastbound lanes will be swept and oiled so paving can begin on September 9. For the final time during this project, the intersections on 19 Street between Irwin Avenue and Gaetz Avenue will be right-in and right-out only until the paving is complete.

The intersections of 46 Avenue and 19 Street and 49 Avenue and 19 Street will be closed for up to three hours during this work, but they will be closed at separate times and access to businesses on 49 Avenue is expected to be maintained throughout this work.

On September 6, 7, 10 and 11, there will be intermittent lane closures as line painting takes place. Drivers are reminded to slow down in construction zones and obey all signs. Updates on the 19 Street Improvement Project can be found at RedDeer.ca/19Street.
