No one hurt in Deer Park garage fire

A garage fire on Dixon Crescent that began Friday morning has been put out with no injuries to the public or damage to residences, says Red Deer Emergency Services (RDES) Assistant Deputy Chief Evan Stewart.

Around 7:25 a.m. on August 30, RDES received a report of the fire and initiated a first alarm response, sending out three engines, one ladder, and a platoon chief to the scene.

Upon arrival, crews reported heavy fire from the original garage that was extending to a neighbouring garage. RDES then upgraded the situation to a second alarm response and dispatched an additional engine to the scene.

Stewart says the crews got the fire under control within about 20 minutes of arriving.

He adds that damage was primarily contained to the garage where the fire originated, with some damage to a neighbouring garage and small structures like fences and sheds. Neither residence was damaged and occupants were able to return to their homes quickly after the fire was put out.

There were no injuries to members of the public, although, “one firefighter received minor injuries on scene,” and received treatment, Stewart said.

Officials don’t believe there is any criminal connection to the cause of the fire and investigators will be on scene for most of the day to determine the fire’s cause.
