Red Deer County receives distinguished award for budget document

For its ninth consecutive year, Red Deer County has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), this time for its 2024-26 budget document.
“Receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from GFOA validates Red Deer County’s financial management processes; preparation of our annual budget plays a huge part for our strategic planning, enabling us to address the needs of our community while fostering transparency and accountability,” said Dave Dittrick, Corporate Services Director.
The document outlines all capital and operating expenditures for the County and details how tax dollars are used to provide services for ratepayers. It includes both detailed and summary breakdowns of funding sources, policies, and it highlights County finance over a multi-year timeline.
According to the GFOA, “The award represents a significant achievement, it reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the organization has to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.”
