Aug 20, 2024 | 10:54 AM

Have you been itching to get out and get active in Red Deer, but don’t know where to start?

The Red Deer region is home to more than 70 sports organizations, and residents can experience what many of them have to offer for free during Xplore Sports Day on August 24.

“Come out and find your tribe, as they talked about in the Olympics; Find out what sport might be a good fit for you and your family,” said Trevor Thomas, CEO of Central Sport.

From noon to 4 p.m. at the Collicutt Centre, residents are invited to try fencing, ringette, boxing, pickle ball, sledge hockey, and many more of the sports that Red Deer has to offer.

“We’re going to have sports that if you have a five-year-old or if you’re 80-years-old and you still want to be in sport, these sports are going to be for all ages,” Thomas said.

Service organizations such as the Red Deer Games Foundation and Kids Sport, which provide scholarships for upcoming athletes and youth in sport, respectively, will also be in attendance. Care for Newcomers will also provide translators for residents who are new to Canada and not yet comfortable enough with English to otherwise get the information.

Additionally, there will be a free hot dog barbecue as well as a bingo sheet that you can fill out by visiting different organizations, and then turn in for prizes.
