Wes Heffernan wins 7th Alberta Open Title

Wes Heffernan from Silver Springs Golf & Country Club has won the 7th Alberta Open Title at Desert Blume Golf Club in Medicine Hat.

Heffernan started the final round of the Alberta Open Championship two shots behind leader Mitchell Fox from Speargrass Golf Course.

Last week, Fox got the best of Heffernan at the PGA of Alberta Assistants Championship, but on Thursday, Heffernan shot his 3rd straight 5-under 67 for a two shot win over Dillon Batsel.

Batsel shot 6-under 66 on his home track Desert Blume Golf Club for a runner-up finish in front of friends and family.

2019 champion Andrew Harrison made a hard charge and was 8-under for the day on the 14th tee, but struggled coming in and posted 4-under 68 and a 3rd place finish.

Heffernan earned $8,250 for his win, Batsel $5,000 for runner-up and Harrison $4,000 for 3rd place.

The tournament saw eight central Alberta participants take part:

• Jared Nicolls, Wolf Creek Golf Resort, finished 9th at -5. Shot a 69, 72, & 70 for a total of 211.
• Logan Graf, Red Deer Golf & Country Club, finished 22nd at +2. Shot an 80, 67, & 71 for a total of 218.
• Tim Hollman, Olds Golf Club, finished 30th at +5. Shot an 76, 71 & 74 for a total of 221.
• Joe Kelly, Innisfail Golf Club, finished 53rd at +14. Shot a 79, 74 & 77 for a total of 230.

The following central Alberta golfers did not make the cut:

• Spencer Dorowicz, Olds Golf Club, finished +13. Shot a 79 & 78 for a total of 157.
• Brock Auclair, Wolf Creek Golf Resort, finished +13. Shot a 74 & 83 for a total of 157.
• Matt Nelson, Red Deer Golf & Country Club, finished +16. Shot a 77 & 83 for a total of 160.
• Tyler Blackburn, Olds Golf Club, finished + 17. Shot an 86 & 75 for a total of 161.

The 7th Alberta Open Title took place from Aug. 13-15, 2024.
