A Red Deer woman and her three-year-old passenger suffered injuries as the result of a fatal multi-vehicle collision on the QEII Highway last week.

On August 9, at approximately 5:29 p.m., Leduc RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, responded to a fatal collision on the QEII Highway between Highway 616 and Township Road 482 in Leduc County.

Although Leduc RCMP’s investigation into the collision is ongoing, preliminary findings suggest that a northbound car was struck from behind by a northbound SUV causing two other vehicles to be struck.

Mounties say the driver of the northbound car, a 38-year-old female resident of Ardrossan, Alta. was pronounced deceased on scene. The 13-year-old female passenger was transported via STARS air ambulance to hospital with unknown injuries and has since been released.

Police say the driver of the northbound SUV, a 28-year-old female resident of Red Deer, and the three-year-old female passenger were both transported to hospital by ground ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to RCMP, the three occupants of the other involved SUV, all residents of Calgary, did not report injuries and the driver and lone occupant of the other involved car, also a Calgary resident, was assessed at the scene.

RCMP express their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
