MONTH OF SEPTEMBER

Provincial government awards grants for Culture Days

Aug 14, 2024 | 3:12 PM

September 1 marks the beginning of Culture Days in Alberta, a month-long celebration of art, music, food, and more.

Throughout the month, Albertans can visit numerous locations across the province to experience its vibrant culture. Last year, provincial officials say around 215,000 Albertans attended events in various communities.

“Alberta Culture Days is a month-long celebration of the arts and culture that make Alberta a thriving and vibrant province,” says Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture, and Status of Women.

“Community organizations across the province have exciting events planned throughout September, from dance to culinary to craft market events. I encourage everyone to visit the Alberta Culture Days website to discover what is happening in your community.”

More than 59 communities hosted events to increase awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Albertans in the arts and cultural life of their communities, officials say.

This year, in an effort to ensure the whole province has the opportunity to participate, Alberta’s government has awarded $375,000 in grants to support 111 organizations in 48 communities to host Alberta Culture Days events.

This year’s feature organizations hosting three days of free events are:

  • Association Canadienne-Francaise de l’Alberta, Regionale de Canmore-Banff
  • Indigenous Artist Market Collective Council (Edmonton)
  • Sarb Akal Music Society of Calgary
  • Sundre & District Historical Society
