Lacombe council shares targets for 2025 property taxes and budget schedule

Budget season is quickly approaching and Lacombe’s city council is hoping to keep next year’s property tax increase to a maximum of 3.2 per cent.

In the August 12 meeting, council received a report on the 2025 budget timelines, policies related to property tax increases, cost-of-living adjustments and projected 2025 budget change requests.

In preparation for deliberation and adoption of the 2025 Operating Budget and Capital Budget, council directed administration to provide a draft Operating Budget with a property tax increase target of less than or equal to 3.2 per cent, and a cost-of-living allowance increase of 3 per cent.

Steps towards this deliberation are predicted as follows:

  • Monday, October 7, 2024 – Operating – Presentations by Agency Groups- that are above guidelines
  • Tuesday, October 15, 2024 – Operating – Draft Operating Budget and 3-year Operating Plan presented to Council, Draft 2025 Capital Budget and 10-Year Capital Plan presented to Council
  • Tuesday, October 29-30, 2024 – Budget Workshop
  • Tuesday, November 12, 2024 – Operating and Capital – Revised 2025 Operating and Capital Budget Presentation and Deliberations (and Possible Adoptions)
  • Monday, November 25, 2024 – Operating and Capital – 2025 Operating and Capital Budget Deliberations (and Possible Adoptions)
  • Monday, December 9, 2024 – Operating and Capital – 2025 Adoption of Operating and Capital Budgets (if required)
