Aug 9, 2024 | 1:42 PM

Rocky Mountain House RCMP are sharing the unfortunate news that an overdue hiker in the Nordegg backcountry has been found deceased.

The 55-year-old was noted to RCMP as overdue on Aug. 5. This led to his vehicle being quickly discovered at the Coral Lake staging area.

Rocky Mountain House Search and Rescue (SAR) and Kananaskis Emergency Services began an exhaustive search of the area utilizing volunteers and helicopters.

On Aug. 8, the missing hiker was located in Coral Creek, about 12 kilometres from where his vehicle was left.

The deceased was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the cause is said to not appear suspicious.

RCMP note that the man was living with family in Alberta, but wasn’t from the province.

RCMP also express their condolences, and praise Alberta Search and Rescue for their professionalism in the search.
