August 10 Update: RCMP looking to identify person of interest in fatal shooting, discover abandoned quad near Didsbury

RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Strathmore RCMP say the stolen quad has been discovered.

It was located abandoned in the Didsbury area.

The RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation, and add that they are following up on all potential leads, but cannot confirm at this time whether the quad incident is connected to the homicide investigation.

RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Strathmore RCMP are again seeking public assistance in the homicide investigation which occurred in Rocky View County on Aug. 6, 2024.

Strathmore RCMP are investigating a theft of quad. The quad was reported stolen on Aug. 7 at 1:34 p.m. However, it is unknown when it was stolen. RCMP are following up on all potential leads and cannot confirm at this time whether these incidents are connected. The quad is believed to have been stolen from a property in Wheatland County. Police say a witness saw a male driving this stolen quad.

RCMP are asking residents in the rural areas surrounding Strathmore to please check their property in an effort to locate this stolen quad. If you have any information regarding this quad, or who may have been driving it, please contact Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3968. UPDATE: Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2024, 2:00 p.m.

RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Strathmore RCMP are still diligently investigating the tragic shooting which occurred in Rocky View County on Aug. 6, 2024. Mounties say, however, there was a potential witness to the shooting and police are seeking public assistance in identifying them.

RCMP note that in the attached picture, you can see what is believed to be a dark grey colored Volkswagen Golf Sportwagon, potentially between 2013 and 2015. Mounties say this car was captured on dash cam video driving past the scene at Range Road 282 and Township Road 250, at the same time the shooting occurred, on Aug. 6 at 11:55 a.m. RCMP need to speak to the occupants of this car. Police say it could be critical in obtaining important information for this investigation.

Please note that RCMP is not looking for the Dodge Ram with teal rims, rather any information of the trucks whereabouts/who was driving it, between Aug. 5, 2024, at 5:55 a.m. and Aug. 6, 2024 at 11:55 a.m.

UPDATE: Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024. 6:00 p.m.

RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Strathmore RCMP continue to investigate the tragic shooting which occurred Aug. 6, 2024, in Rocky View County.

Through investigation, Mounties say a vehicle of interest has been identified. The vehicle is a white 2013 Dodge Ram with teal aftermarket rims and shell-shaped lug nuts. Police say it was stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Abadan Place N.E. Calgary on Aug. 5, 2024, at 5:55 a.m.

RCMP believe this truck is connected to this homicide investigation and they are seeking public assistance to identify any video footage of this vehicle or the subjects who were in it, between the time of its theft up to the time the shooting occurred, which was Aug. 6 at approximately 11:56 a.m.

RCMP have numerous resources continuing with this investigation. As soon as more details become available, police say a further update will be sent.

UPDATE: Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024. 9:00 p.m.

At approximately 11:56 a.m., Strathmore RCMP responded to a report of a shooting at Range Road 282 and Township Road 250, located in Rocky View County. Upon arrival, Mounties say it was discovered that two individuals had been shot, one superficially, the other was fatally wounded.

After the shooting, police say the suspects fled the scene in a stolen Rocky View County work truck. RCMP say they dumped the truck at Range Road 260 and Township Road 252, located in Wheatland County, and fled the scene. RCMP quickly located this vehicle and a search of the area was conducted with assistance from numerous RCMP Detachments, Police Dog Services, RCMP Emergency Response Team as well as Calgary Tactical Team and HAWCS from Calgary City Police. A shelter in place was issued for residents in this area at 1:08 p.m. Mounties say a thorough search was completed and the suspects were not located. At 4:34 p.m., the shelter in place was lifted.

RCMP is seeking anyone who may have witnessed either event, especially if they have dash cam video, between 11:50 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., to please contact Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3968 or Crime Stoppers.

DO NOT approach the suspects if encountered. Police say they are considered armed and dangerous.

Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024. 4:46 p.m.

Strathmore RCMP are lifting the shelter in place at this time. RCMP say they thoroughly searched the contained area and are confident the suspects are not in this area.

The scene at Range Road 252 and Township Road 260 is being processed, so Mounties ask that you please avoid the area to allow officers to do their jobs.

Police note, however, the suspects are still at large but there is no further information regarding them. The investigation continues and RCMP say updates will be sent as the situation develops. Mounties say trust that the RCMP and their partners are doing everything they can to successfully resolve this situation.

UPDATE: Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024. 3:28 p.m.

Strathmore RCMP are still on scene at the noted location and are advising that they are searching for two armed and dangerous suspects.

The shelter in place is still in effect for the following area of Wheatland County:

North border – Township Road 262

East border – Township Road 245

South border – Township Road 252

West border – Township Road 255

Mounties say for public and police safety, please avoid the area.

Strathmore RCMP and partners are currently on scene at a serious police incident and are issuing a shelter in place. Containment has been set up and police need everyone to stay away.

Residents within these Township Roads are asked to stay inside and do not answer your doors for anyone.
