FECAL BACTERIA

Water quality advisory issued for Ebeling Beach at Gull Lake

Aug 1, 2024 | 10:10 AM

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is reporting elevated levels of fecal bacteria in the water at the Ebeling Beach Day Use Area of Gull Lake and advises the public not to swim or wade in this beach area, effective immediately.

AHS says it detected elevated levels of fecal bacteria via testing of the water park at this location. At current levels, officials say gastrointestinal illness may result from ingestion of the water at Ebeling Beach. As well, there is the possibility of skin, ear and eye infections with water contact.

Visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any lake or reservoir, at any time. Water-borne organisms, including fecal bacteria, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

AHS Environmental Public Health officers will continue to monitor the water at the Ebeling Beach Day Use Area. The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
