250 HOMES IMPACTED

Failed equipment causes power outage in Eastview and Morrisroe

Aug 1, 2024 | 11:54 AM

A power outage early in the morning of August 1 affected about 250 homes in the Eastview and Morrisroe neighbourhoods.

Dean Walker, senior utilities superintendent with the City of Red Deer, said the cause was failed equipment.

Crews were made aware of the issue and dispatched to the scene to do repairs around 12:30 a.m. and power was restored by 6:30 a.m., he said.

Walker added that if residents see something, they should say something.

“It was a very big area that was out. It takes some time to track the issue down sometimes. If we can get a hint from the public that they’ve seen something, sometimes it will help us remedy the situation a lot quicker,” said Walker.

He reminds residents to keep themselves safe by avoiding downed power lines and damaged equipment.
