Olds RCMP discovered a cache of weapons and ammunition after tracking a stolen truck to a rural property.

On July 25, 2024, Innisfail RCMP received a report of a truck being stolen in the area and with the help of the owner and OnStar GPS, traced the vehicle to a property in Mountain View County on Range Road 25.

Olds RCMP says it executed a search warrant and found the following items at the property:

  • The stolen 2018 Chevrolet Silverado
  • Three bolt action rifles
  • Eight air pistols and BB guns
  • Air rifle
  • Mortar launcher
  • Three white phosphorous grenades
  • 7.62 mm round magazines (x12)
  • Bandolier loaded with 7.62 mm ammunition
  • Box filled with miscellaneous military equipment including tarps, and helmets that were previously reported stolen out of Lacombe County, Alta.

Mounties say a Canadian Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team assisted with safely disposing of the white phosphorous grenades.

Olds RCMP are still investigating and have yet to identify a suspect.
