Alberta radio stations come together for Jasper ‘Day of Caring’, 5:45pm total – $518,482

Jul 31, 2024 | 9:14 AM

Every radio station across Alberta came together to hold a major fundraising effort for Jasper on Wednesday.

The small resort town and national park was ravaged by wildfire last week, with many people losing their homes and businesses.

The Alberta Day of Caring for Jasper, an effort led by Pattison Media, will feature two ways to help: a bottle drive and direct Canadian Red Cross donations.

Anyone wishing to participate can bring their empty recyclable bottles and cans to any bottle depot in Alberta and say “these are for Jasper”.

Those who are interested in dropping off bottles can find the nearest depot at FindADepot.ca.

There are three depots in Red Deer:

  • Cosmos Bottle Depot – 7428 49 Ave #4
  • Cosmos ll Bottle Depot – 6332 Orr Dr
  • South Hill Bottle Depot – 2410 50 Ave

The drive will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with proceeds going to the Canadian Red Cross and those impacted by the wildfire, according to organizers.

Plastic pop bottles, aluminum pop cans, juice boxes and pouches, milk cartons and glass juice bottles are among the items that can be dropped off, according to the Alberta Bottle Depot Association.

Drinkable yogurt containers, water bottles, alcohol bottles and vegetable juice cans are also included on a list from the association.

All donations on Wednesday will be matched by the provincial and federal governments, so donations made will have triple the impact, say organizers.

Organizers say Alberta Bottle Depots will continue taking donations through the rest of the week, and the weekend ahead. If you didn’t get a chance to donate your cans and bottles Wednesday, you can do so the rest of this week/weekend.

A final total is expected to be announced Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024.
