237 km/h in an 80 zone

Fort McMurray resident dead after motorcycle crash near Innisfail

A Fort McMurray resident has died after losing control of his motorcycle on Range Road 25 near Innisfail.

On July 28, a Red Deer County peace officer patrolling the area witnessed the 33-year-old male driving a sports bike at excessive speed, clocking him allegedly going 237 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Innisfail RCMP say the peace officer activated his emergency lights, but before he could make a u-turn and pursue the southbound rider, the rider lost control on a curve in the road and crashed into a small wooded area.

RCMP remained on the scene for several hours to investigate the incident but have now cleared from the scene.
