10th Flags of Remembrance ceremony seeking more sponsors

Jul 27, 2024 | 1:35 PM

The 10th annual Flags of Remembrance event in Sylvan Lake is quickly approaching.

Veterans Voices of Canada founder Al Cameron says more sponsors are needed for the event, which honours past and present military and first responder heros.

This is done by raising 128 flags to commemorate the approximately 128,000 Canadians who’ve lost their lives in the line of duty.

The event is slated to start at 10 a.m. on Sept. 7 at Centennial Park in Sylvan Lake.

“I hoped it would last this long, and it has. Because of the community feedback we get every year, we know it’s an Important thing that makes a difference,” says Cameron, who’s taken the event to other communities across the country.

“Because it runs the first week of September through Remembrance Day, it allows people to understand for a longer time, and visually, the importance of our veterans, service people, and about sacrifice. I hope it’ll last another 10 years.”

Cameron is looking for 10 corporate sponsors, but anyone can sponsor a flag, which comes with a plaque honouring your hero.
