Jul 25, 2024 | 3:09 PM

The Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise has made the draw for its Westerner Days 50/50 winner and long-time resident Gay Brinton is the lucky resident taking home $32,870 from the fundraiser.

Brinton purchased winning ticket B-18803 because “we’ve been residents of Red Deer for years and I try to buy locally. Any community thats having a function or draw, I just support,” she said.

The other half of the draw will remain with the Rotary Club and go towards the annual grant run they hold for central Alberta organizations that meet their criteria for helping seniors and youth, said Jeffrey Dawson, chairperson of the raffle.

“All of the funds raised through these activities and everything we do, our club gives to community organizations for projects that they’re working on,” said Ian Warwick, president of the Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise. “It’s all shared with the people of Red Deer and central Alberta.”

A portion of the proceeds has been disbursed to partnering organizations that help them accomplish the fundraiser, including the Westerner Foundation, Canyon Ski Patrol, Ronald McDonald House, Family Services of Central Alberta, the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre, Care for Newcomers, and Youth HQ.

This is the Club’s largest fundraiser and takes it roughly six months to prepare and recover from the event.

The Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise was chartered in 1999 and has been performing services for the community ever since. It has raised over $1 million dollars for the local community and for international projects.
