Hygiene item shortage at The Mustard Seed

Jul 25, 2024 | 5:07 PM

For the first time in over 10 years, The Mustard Seed in Calgary is starting to experience supply shortages of several hygiene products.

“Typically, we would see a decrease in shelter guests in the summer months, however, we have been at capacity or above for several months and our supplies are depleting faster than the donations have been coming in,” says Samantha Lowe, senior director of shelter operations.

The Mustard Seed is asking people to donate the following:

  • Men’s and women’s deodorant
  • Lotion (travel size preferred)
  • Razors
  • Sunscreen
  • Nail Clippers/emery boards
  • Body wash
  • Feminine products (pads)
  • Shampoo (travel size preferred)

The donation sorting centre in Calgary supports an average of over 350 guests staying at the Foothills shelter, over 40 guests at its women’s shelter, as well as drop-ins at the Downtown Community Impact Centre.

Donations can be dropped off in Calgary at The Mustard Seed Community Impact Centre (102- 11 Avenue S.E.).
