City launches grant to encourage inclusive sport opportunities

Jul 25, 2024 | 5:10 PM

The City of Red Deer is introducing a new grant, the Collaboration in Sport Fund, to encourage local sport organizations to work together with social agencies to bring inclusive sports opportunities to the city.

The grant will provide up to $50,000 in one-time funding for removing barriers and encouraging new ways of providing sports-based programming to Red Deerians of all abilities.

Organizations can receive from $5,000 up to $25,000 per application to support community-led projects that fit within the City’s Social Policy Framework.

Successful applications will demonstrate that through collaboration between groups the following outcomes will be achieved:

  • Increase recreation participation rates
  • Remove barriers to enhance access to recreation
  • Enhance community pride, identity and diversity for positive social impact
  • Grow cultural understanding

“As a part of our continued efforts to empower our local sport organizations and social agencies, we are pleased to bring yet another grant opportunity to the community. We hope the programs that result from this grant, will break down barriers and improve access to sport, recreation and wellness for people who experience challenges or attitudes that have prevented them from participating in the past,” says Kristin Walsh, manager of safe & healthy communities. “Collaboration between groups is essential to achieving these outcomes and fostering a more inclusive community.”

The application deadline for the Collaboration in Sport Fund is September 20, 2024.
