78-year-old Red Deer County man dies in three-vehicle crash

Jul 25, 2024 | 5:09 PM

RCMP confirm a Red Deer County man died in a three-vehicle collision that took place last Wednesday, July 17, just west of Red Deer.

RCMP were notified just after 4:40 p.m. about the crash that took place at Hwy 11A near Range Road 281, just 2.5 km east of Poplar Ridge Estates and 3.6 km west of Queens Business Park.

Investigation determined that a red Dodge truck, driven by a 78-year-old man, was driving on Hwy 11A when it slowed suddenly for unknown reasons.

The truck was then hit from behind by a Chrysler van, knocking it into an oncoming Nissan Rogue. The truck’s driver died on scene.

The drivers of the other vehicles, a 43-year-old Sylvan Lake man, and 27-year-old Red Deer man, both suffered minor injuries. There were no other occupants in the vehicles.

There are no charges at this time, police say, adding that alcohol and weather are not believed to be factors.
